EMBRACE THE TRADITION

The Otero Fair Association is looking forward to the 79th county fair this September.  County fairs have been an institution across the country forever, especially in rural and agrarian communities.  They provide an opportunity for the community to come together and for producers to display the results of their efforts.  Certainly livestock and farm products are displayed and judged, but arts, crafts, hobbies, and other skills are also shown.

Our county fair has grown over the years to include vendors and entertainment that blend with the exhibits and is intended to be a family affair.  The offerings include food, music, and a carnival – attractions for all ages.  The events are scheduled over several days in order to allow visitors to participate in all the offerings at their own pace.

The 2018 county fair is scheduled for the third week in September, about a month later than the mid-August date of recent years.  The change in dates was made after considerable deliberation and consideration for the weather, the school year, and exhibitors.  Moving the date of the fair into September has received positive comments for a number of reasons.

This year’s fair will feature a larger carnival, located in the newly prepared area on the east side of the fairgrounds, and more vendors under the new Pavilion. There will be a ranch rodeo on Friday and Saturday afternoon with the regular rodeo to follow in the evening.  Other events are planned in the arena on Wednesday and Thursday evenings as well.  Most significantly, the Fair Board has been able to do away with the gate charge to attend the fair!  For the first time in many years we will return to a free fair.  We can’t wait to see you there!

Due to generous sponsors, entrance to the 2018 Otero County Fair is absolutely free!  So bring the whole family and EMBRACE THE TRADITION.

MAY WE BRING OUR OWN FOOD OR DRINKS?

Outside food and drinks will not be allowed on the premises during this year’s event. We have numerous vendors on site to ensure your visit to the fair is filled with fun and FOOD and we can’t wait to hear who was your favorite.

SHOULD I HAVE TO BRING CASH?

Each vendor has full control over how they receive payment.  Although many will have card readers, cash would be recommended to ensure a seamless experience.

ARE THERE ANIMALS ONSITE?
